We Deliver Care - A Snapshot on GC-CSR Programs
The Greater China Corporate Social Responsibility (GC-CSR) program was launched successfully earlier this year when NOL Group employees sponsored three counties of children in Yunnan for their elementary and secondary school. Since then, the company has sponsored two other programs in Yunnan and Guizhou.
The GC-CSR program got off to a superb start when its Committee targeted to sponsor schoolchildren from one county in Yunnan, but ended up sponsoring three counties instead. An enthusiastic response was received when the call for sponsorship was made. As a result, all needy students from three counties, totalling 434 school-going children, received sponsorship from NOL employees.
The three counties were Jinghong, Puer and Yunlong, and are located in Yunnan, in south-west China. Each elementary and secondary student in the province needs 200rmb and 400rmb respectively to cover for a year of tuition and books. While most of the sponsorship were received from GC employees, some of our fellow colleagues from Oakland, Uxbridge, Dubai and Singapore also answered to the call.
Aligning its efforts with the Group CSR theme, GC-CSR furthered its steps by sponsoring the eighth group of Shanghai volunteers to Yunnan. NOL has been the first and sole Foreign Invested Enterprise (FIE) to sponsor this flagship program of Shanghai Youth Volunteers Association since 2004. The seventh team earned a very positive feedback from the Yunnan Province for their field medical and teaching services, which were rendered to communities scattered in remote mountain areas. On Aug 2, the eighth group of 21 young volunteers were sent off from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport in a warm and brief ceremony attended by their families, colleagues and a number of city officials. Koay Peng Yen, who were also present, expressed his view on volunteerism and corporate citizenship, and wished the team a journey of fulfillment. In the same month, another GC-CSR program reached a fulfilled end in Guizhou, South China. Starting June 30, four main South China offices including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen and Fuzhou initiated a staff donation of utility items to Guizhou. Eight co-ordinators worked on voluntary base to facilitate the donation process. Efforts of a full month and the generosity of South China staff generated 42 cartons of 2,958 pieces of donation items. They were neatly packed and delivered to Guizhou Donation Center on August 12. Local media made full coverage on the hand-over ceremony. South China staff promised to render more help to this needy region in the near future. The GC-CSR Committee has been greatly motivated and encouraged to see colleagues from so many regions extending their hands out of social charity cause.
BRAVO!!!…
